Frequently Asked Questions
Exercise Physiologists help treat and manage all varying disabilities and conditions through an active physical based therapy approach. They can help you to understand your condition and learn how best to manage and improve your health to become more independent and achieve your goals. Some of the ways an Exercise Physiologist may help you are:
Greater independence and the ability to achieve important life goals
Pain reduction and injury management
Improved mental health, wellbeing and self-esteem
The ability to effectively self-manage your condition
Improved mobility and physical function
The roles between these two professions can often be confusing as both provide physical based therapy to treat injuries, pain, chronic diseases and disabilities.
In it's simplest terms, within the latest Scopes of Practice, the primary differences between the the two is that Physiotherapists can often provide manual (massage-based) therapy and prescribe mobility aids whereas an Exercise Physiologist often won't. All other forms of physical therapy for rehabilitation, chronic disease and disability management can be provided by either profession.
We charge our services BELOW the recommended NDIS rate. The current hourly rate for exercise physiology is $160 (inc. GST).
If we are required to travel to provide services to you, then travel is charged as per NDIS guidelines.
There are 3 zones:
Zone 1-3: maximum of 60 minutes return
Zone 4-5: maximum of 120 minutes return
Zone 6-7: Pre-approved amount
You are able to check which zone you are in and get a better understanding of travel costs prior to proceeding and we will ensure that you are aware of any travel costs before undertaking the service.
To minimise travel costs we will split travel costs where we can, by providing therapy to other people who live in the same area as you either before or after your therapy session.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a system designed to give security and dignity to people with permanent and significant disability. Its intention is to support people with disability to have greater control and more fulfilling lives.
The NDIS provides funding to an estimated 500,000 Australians who have a permanent and significant disability so they can receive the disability support they need. The NDIS can also provide information and connections to support services in your local area (doctors and health professionals, support and social groups, and community services, for instance) as well as information about support provided by state and territory governments.
The NDIS is available for people with disability between the ages of 7 and 65 who live in Australia and are either Australian citizens or have a Permanent or Special Category Visa. If you require special equipment or supports because of disability (now or in the future), you may be eligible for the NDIS.
Children aged under 7 years who have a developmental delay or disability may also be eligible for support through the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach. The ECEI approach supports families to help children develop the skills they need to take part in daily activities and achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their life.
The best way to assess your eligibility for the scheme is to review these NDIS eligibility questions.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can then complete an Access Request Form to request to become an NDIS participant.
An NDIS plan is unique to you and your needs. It outlines your immediate and long-term goals and helps to identify the reasonable and necessary supports that will help you reach those goals. For more information for how the planning process works click here.
There is also help available to create your plan. Depending on your needs, you may need the help of a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or a Support Coordinator.
Physihealth currently services participants of NDIS, Support At Home (My Aged Care Plans) and Medicare.
We travel all across the Sunshine Coast and Morten Bay regions. If you live on the Sunshine Coast, Bribie Island or Caboolture areas we service your area.
To get on Support at Home (formerly Home Care Packages), you must register and be assessed through My Aged Care by calling 1800 200 422 or completing an online application at myagedcare.gov.au. If eligible, you will receive an assessment for a tailored plan, followed by a decision letter, allowing you to choose a service provider and start receiving care.
Mobile exercise physiologists are equipped to assist individuals dealing with a wide range of conditions, including chronic illnesses (eg. diabetes, heart disease), musculoskeletal injuries, neurological disorders, and age-related health concerns. They tailor exercise programs to address your unique and specific needs and reach your goals.
Mobile exercise physiologists offer the convenience of receiving tailored care without the need to travel to a clinic or gym. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with mobility issues or those who prefer the comfort and privacy of their homes.
In most cases, you don't require anything other than your what is standard in your home as mobile exercise physiologists are experienced at adjusting to the environment and utilising the household that is readily available. If any additional equipment is required the mobile exercise physiologists will bring the necessary equipment with them for your sessions. However, you may need some basic items that you probably already have at home, such as comfortable workout clothing and suitable footwear. Your exercise physiologist will provide guidance on any additional requirements that you may need.
Hydrotherapy is best defined as therapeutic exercise completed in a heated pool and can be very beneficial as it assists in improving pain management, mobility, cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength.
At Physihealth we are thoroughly experienced and trained in Hydrotherapy and pool safety and rescue and often see clients at pools within the community. Your exercise physiologist will complete an assessment, and work with you to formulate a plan to allow you to complete hydrotherapy in a safe and beneficial environment.
